So I'm curious what "healthy breakfast" means for everyone. This isn't to compare or boast or whatever, just plain curious. And it's fun to get ideas. A good friend of mine has an approach to healthy eating, which is to ask "What's just one thing I can do better?" I can't change everything, our budget won't change (for now), my occasional morning sickness won't change (for now), and time constraints won't go away, but what is ONE thing I can do better? For me that was a glass of milk and actually taking that prenatal vitamin. Maybe not necessaries, but it was one good step for me in addition to generally healthy breakfasts. Oh and to stop eating for a couple of hours once breakfast is over. Breakfast doesn't mean the beginning of day-long itty-bitty snacking. Novel idea, I know.
So what about you?
For breakfast I love to have a green smoothie and a hard-boiled egg!
ReplyDeletefor me it's either a healthy (mostly that means not swimming in sugar) cereal with milk and fruit or homemade oatmeal with some fruit. It all depends ob time for me which one I go to.
ReplyDeleteBreakfast has always been a necessary meal for me. I can't even remember the last time I skipped breakfast. I have been trying to elminate cereal and put more filling and healthy items in its place. Lately we have been having hearty oatmeal with nuts, yogurt, fruit etc, eggs & toast, and Smoothies (both green smoothies and fruit smoothies). I made this baked oatmeal one evening and we have been heating it and enjoying it for the last couple of mornings. http://kellythekitchenkop.com/2009/03/healthy-breakfast-recipe-from-sue-baked-soaked-oatmeal.html
ReplyDeleteNothing that also could be served as dessert! And a reasonable amount. Sometimes, when I am casual about "being healthy" I eat a few more plate/bowl fulls than I would otherwise.
ReplyDeleteI do anything filling- shredded wheat and fruit, egg over easy and toast, etc.
Breakfast is the hardest thing for me for some reason. I've never been a big breakfast eater, but I've been doing oatmeal and then a green smoothie mid-morning, early afternoon.
ReplyDeleteYogurt with granola or some whole grain cereal.Scrambled egg and a smoothie. Oat waffle with homemade apple butter. Mostly yogurt with granola for me.
ReplyDeleteMix and Match: cereal, bagel with cream cheese, fruit, waffles, pancakes, french toast, oatmeal, breakfast burritos, eggs on toast... ;) I have always had to eat breakfast or I can't function past around 10 am, so I generally eat a pretty big one.
