Neighborly Conundrum

So last week, I borrowed some flour from some neighbors I hadn't met before. They were super gracious about it too.
Now, I would like to thank them with food. I would normally bake chocolate chip cookies or something similar and take a half batch over. But I really have almost no self control. I'm not sure I could not snitch chocolate or dough during baking or much less have any at home for my husband or kids to enjoy.
Yes, the way I am keeping my personal goal of no chocolate and of one treat or less a day is just not to have anything tempting in the house. Then when I am out at a party, I can limit myself to one cupcake or whatever. But smelling cookies all day it is hard to have one, instead of a nice even half dozen!
I think I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and do some baking tonight!
Wish me luck!

  1. Oh man that's rough. Totally been there. What about a loaf of sweet bread (like banana or pumpkin or poppy seed) then there is nothing to snitch? Because let's face it; cookie dough is the reason we make cookies.

  2. Oh man that would be hard! First of all, borrowing from a neighbor you don't even know...and then trying to make them something yummy but not partaking of it yourself. I do the same thing: if it comes in the house, I eat it, so I just don't let it in the house. What about zucchini bread? Good luck!

  3. Hmmm...go and buy some cookies and put them on a plate as if they were homemade? lol :) You could do one of those gift jars, where you just put the dry ingredients in a jar, and give them the recipe so they can add the liquids, and bake it in their own house...where the smell won't be close enough to tempt you. :) I'm not as tempted with flour, sugar and baking soda by themselves, it's just when they're mixed with the liquids that's it's YUMMY!!! Good luck!

Healthy breakfast cookies:) I've had a different type of breakfast cookie that is REALLY good. So you can eat the batter all you'd like and not feel TOO guilty;)

  5. Bake 'em & freeze 'em, babe! Hide them from yourself. That's what I do!
